Volunteer Opportunities

 

 

Step Up To Justice (SU2J) is a free civil legal center for low-income individuals and families in Pima County,  powered by the talents of volunteer attorneys. SU2J welcomes members of the Arizona state bar (or attorneys willing to become active members of the Arizona state bar) to volunteer their time and talents to assist clients with civil legal needs in areas like housing, family law, consumer protection, bankruptcy, end-of-life planning, social security, and employment.

Family Law

Clinic

  • Meet with clients individually or in a group setting at SU2J's office and help prepare documents necessary to file their case.
  • Monday - Friday
  • Volunteer hours will depend on volunteers availability.

Minor Guardianship Clinic

  • Meet with clients individually or in a group setting at SU2J's office and help prepare documents necessary to file their case in Probate Court.
  • Monday - Friday
  • Volunteer hours will depend on volunteers availability. 

Consumer

Advice-Only Clinic

  • Meet with individual clients for half-hour consultations at SU2J's office to gather facts about their consumer case and help clients assess their next steps.
  • Monday - Friday
  • Volunteer hours will depend on volunteers availability.

Wills/Probate

Advice-Only Clinic

  • Meet with individual clients for half-hour consultations at SU2J's office to gather facts about their probate issue and help clients assess their next steps.
  • Monday - Friday
  • Volunteer hours will depend on volunteers availability.

HOME Clinic

  • Meet with individual clients seeking assistance with landlord/tenant matters for half-hour appointments. Volunteers will gather facts, review client cases, provide advice, assist with document preparation and offer information on next steps.

RENT Clinic

  • Present at pre-designed education seminars aimed to inform tenants about their rights and responsibilities under Arizona landlord / tenant law.
  • Monday - Friday

Prep With Tech:

End of Life Care Planning Clinic

  • Meet with individual clients for one-hour appointments and draft their end of life planning documents using SU2J's online document automation apps. Prior to volunteering, attorneys receive extensive training using the clinic's technology.

Federal Court Project

  • Meet with self-represented litigants who either wish to file a civil case in federal court or who have already filed and need help navigating the system. Volunteers can expect to give advice on a wide range of issues including: jurisdiction, civil rights, social security appeals, federal tort claims, disability rights, employment discrimination, wrongful termination, and contract disputes. Volunteers provide legal advice, help complete forms, and answer questions about litigants’ federal claims.

Superior Court

Family Law Clinic

  • Help self-represented litigants complete the paperwork necessary to move their case forward through the legal system. Volunteers assist clients with a broad range of family law issues including: reviewing clients’ petitions and responses for dissolution, helping clients prepare for trial or draft various motions, advising clients on modifying legal decision-making or parenting time orders, and helping parents enforce child support orders.
