Volunteer Opportunities

 

Where children, teens, young adults and families find comfort, hope and support while they are grieving the diagnosis of a serious medical condition or the death of a loved one. All programs are offered in English and Spanish, at no cost to children and families. All volunteers interested in working directly with Tu Nidito families must be a minimum of 16 years old, able to meet criminal background check requirements, commit to volunteer for the minimum time specified for that position and complete a volunteer training session.

Support Group Facilitator

  • Work as a team and with the guidance of an on-site staff member to facilitate activities and discussion for children, teens, and/or caregivers in the evenings.
  • Dates and times may vary depending on volunteers’ availability

One-on-One Volunteer

  • Provide respite, play and can include various roles, from emotional and social support, compassionate play and companionship to children who have been diagnosed with a serious medical condition and their families. The day, time, location, and frequency of visits vary by family needs

Therapy Dog Team

  • Participate in groups as an added element of comfort to families. Additional roles may be needed in one-on-one support and events.

Event Support

  • Event and Outreach Support for special events that benefit Tu Nidito and broaden our visibility to potential families, volunteers, and donors.
  • Dates and times may vary depending on volunteers’ availability

Board of Directors

  • The Board of Directors have full authority for determining, implementing, and monitoring policies which govern Tu Nidito’s total operation, and ensuring that service delivery is consistent with acceptable standards of practice.
  • The Board assumes total fiduciary responsibility for continuing operational and financial success of Tu Nidito. Each board member is elected to a multi-year term and is accountable for established duties and responsibilities.

Office Support

  • Volunteer tasks may include detailed data entry, gift processing, organizing, answering phones, preparation of mailings or materials for groups/one-on-one services, research, development support, and more.
